I have been trying to be more intentional about stopping to enjoy the beauty of the world around me. Of course, that leads me to want to share what I see through the lens with everyone
It’s a photographer’s compulsion. I’ve already posted a few of my summer discoveries and have been trying to determine how to make this a regular part of my life. I finally decided on Thursday Afternoons. I was inspired by a quote from a fabulous children’s book, When the Circus Came to Town by Polly Horvath. (I encourage all parents to read it with your children because you’ll enjoy it as much as they do! Probably 4th-5th grade level, I think. Ms. Horvath uses humor to teach about discrimination and tolerance. Well worth the read!) In one place the main character Ivy observes, “Thursday afternoons can be tough. You’ve about had it with the week but the week hasn’t had it with you.” (p. 79 in my copy) Isn’t that so true!! Thus I realized that Thursday afternoons would be a good time to stop and reflect on the beauty we have around us. It will help us gather the strength to make it through what the week still has in store for us. We’ll start the official Thursday Afternoon blog post with Serena Angelonia, photographed with the Canon 5D MarkII and a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens at sunset.
