We purchased this at Wright’s Produce on Coliseum Boulevard (the Farmers’ Market) several weeks ago and it has just performed magnificently! We are never disappointed at what we get from Wright’s Produce!

The Enjoy Creation “Thursday” was inspired by a quote from one of my all-time favorite children’s books, When the Circus Came to Town by Polly Horvath. The main character, Ivy, wisely observes that, “Thursday afternoons can be tough. You’ve about had it with the week but the week hasn’t had it with you.” (p. 79) My hope is by concentrating on God’s creation – the things that are still beautiful in this sin-filled world – we can gather the strength and the will to make it victoriously through the remainder of the week.

I was very disappointed last month when a 365-day photo project I was participating in decided to become political. I had joined to be part of a creative movement – not of an agenda. I chose to drop out of the group but have so missed the challenge and practice on the iPhone – my choice of weapon for the project. I came across another photographer’s blog last week (not from this area) who posted a weekly iPhone dump. I thought that was a great idea! So here’s the last week of April. I may try to go back and add in previous weeks when I can. And I challenge all of you to dump your iPhone photos onto your computer or cloud weekly! Just think of all that could be lost.

It is always good for photographers to try things that are outside of their comfort zones. It forces growth and enlarges the skill set. Photographing the reenactment of the Battle of Selma this weekend was certainly out of my comfort zone but something I’ve wanted to do since becoming interested in photography. I’ve usually had weddings scheduled on the same weekend and have not been able to attend. However, yesterday I had the day off and was able to scoot over to Selma – in spite of the forecast of storms – and observe this spectacular event.

I was prepared to enjoy the day… I was not prepared for the feelings that I experienced as I watched the battle unfold.

I’ve always believed the Civil War was one of the saddest periods of our history. Even while reading about the events, my mind has not taken me to the true horror of the war because I have, thankfully, not had any experience upon which to draw. The sound from the canons, the vibrations shaking the ground, the smell of the gunpowder, the sight of young and old lining up to face death all made me realize in a new way just how senseless and horrible war is. I felt an overwhelming sense of hopelessness as I watched the reenactment of the battle and an unexpected grief to see the confederate flag standing in opposition to the American flag.

We can never know what we would have done had we lived in that time of history, but it just seems like there should have been a better way to resolve the differences and avoid such suffering. While I cannot say that I “enjoyed” the Battle of Selma, it was certainly a feast for the senses and quite an educational experience. I can certainly recommend that everyone attend.

Miss Sarah was so cooperative I think she may have gotten an ice cream treat after the session!

I’ve been looking for an opportunity to photograph the dogwoods that are absolutely beautiful this year. Finally got a chance when we went to check on our land in the country. But daylight ran out before I’d had enough! We clipped off a few branches and I saved them until Monday. I just propped them on an old chair on the front porch (where the light is always gorgeous) and snapped away. Please enjoy!

We discovered these aromatic pink blossoms on a little tree back near a fence line in the country. Not sure what it is… possibly a little crab apple? We plan to watch it and see what it becomes, but for now I’m just enjoying the beautiful pink and green delight. I normally reserve posts like this for Thursdays, but decided we might need a pick-me-up on this tax day! Please enjoy with me!
